AAMFTCA Educators Forum: Encino

Educators Forum: Encino

The AAMFT-CA DIVISION EDUCATORS COLLABORATIVE and THE WRIGHT INSTITUTE are pleased to offer the following program for MFT educators:

RELEVANT, REALISTIC AND REQUIRED CURRICULUM:
How to Incorporate Change

BBS-sponsored SB 33, signed by the Governor last year, requires MFT graduate school programs to incorporate the concepts and approach to treatment included in the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA). The MHSA is designed to transform the public mental health system in California – changes in educational curriculum are only one piece of the development of an integrated system of community care. This Forum will provide guidance on the “content”, as well as the “process”, of required curriculum revision, including how to form collaborative connections with community agency and county treatment programs. The program includes:

Mental Health Services Act Update: AAMFT-CA Executive Director Olivia Loewy

BBS Update: BBS MHSA Coordinator Christy Berger will provide updated information and answer questions about the SB 33 implementation process and the new curriculum and supervision requirements.

Ahead of the Curve: Diane Gehart, CSUN faculty and author of Mastering Competencies in Family Therapy, will present information about course structure, learning activities and syllabi.

The Employers Perspective: A panel of county and community agency managers and supervisors will present information about the “real world” of public mental health, featuring:

Matthew Meyers, Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center
Larry Shallert, Child and Family Center of Santa Clarita
Toni Navarro, Tri City Mental Health Center
Ventura County Behavioral Health (TBA)

Hands-On Workgroup Sessions:Workgroups are designed to provide guidance and share related materials to assist educators in completing the BBS MFT Program Update, Form 2. Our public mental health panelists will participate in the workgroup sessions to initiate a collaborative process and contribute suggestions for creating relevant curriculum.
