Strategic Plan

Core Purpose

The MFT profession will be comprised of and known as competent, ethical, clinically informed and relationally based mental health professionals.

This includes: 1. Dissemination of the MFT culture. 2. Targeting current and future licensees, educational infrastructures (faculty and students), regulatory environment, employer base (mental health system), payers and the public.

Goal 1: Shaping the Profession

MFTs will share a unified identity and common understanding of the core scope and practice of Marriage and Family Therapy.

Objectives:

1.1  Build community among faculty of MFT training programs.
1.2  Build commitment and identity among MFT students.
1.3  Become a clearinghouse for internship opportunities.
1.4  Provide a national perspective for the BBS.

Goal 2: Advancing the Profession

Public, payers and employers will respect and utilize MFTs.

Objectives:

2.1 Increase employment opportunities for MFTs in county mental health.
2.2 Increase public awareness of MFTs as qualified, comprehensive mental health professionals.
2.3 Represent MFTs at state level mental health policy and programs.

Goal 3: Embodying the Profession

AAMFT-CA will be known as the link with the profession on a national level.

Objectives:

3.1 Build a strong collaborative relationship with AAMFT.
3.2 Promote the strengths of a national connection in California.

Goal 4: Demonstrating Organizational Excellence

Objectives:

4.1 Increase membership through aggressive recruitment and retention programs for membership.
4.2 Create diversity in membership by building confidence within the association that AAMFT-CA is an open and inclusive culture.
4.3 Recruit and develop a diverse group of new organizational leaders throughout AAMFT-CA.
4.4 Provide premiere, high quality support educational opportunities and cutting-edge services that enhance member ability to practice effectively (as acknowledged by members).
4.5 Increase capacity for membership service and advocacy.
